August 7, 1942 - April 17, 2012
On a pleasant day, August 7, 1942, George & Elsie Mae Brown gave birth to Helena Brown in Chesapeake, VA. She was the oldest of 6 siblings. Helena was married to the late Frank Carney Sr. for 23 years. They were blessed with three children: Reginald Carney, Nara Brown (Kenneth) and Frank Carney Jr. (Tonya) all of Anchorage, Alaska. Helena traveled across the United States with Frank which was in the Air Force for many years. Helena stayed busy working hard at the Elmendorf Air Force Base Dining Room as a cook, until retiring in 1979. She also touched many lives while being a Hospice Care Giver and Helena also started her own day care center. Blessings after blessings is what she poured out in the community and the favor of God returned blessings unseen. Helena loved to provide for all and when she wasn’t traveling, she enjoyed to shop. Helena was married to Henry Lee Brown for 37 years and shared a special bond that cannot be put into words. They were best friends, doing everything together from traveling to serving the God who has yet to fail. She was a devoted member of Okatibbee Missionary Baptist Church and she loved serving the Lord. Preceding her in death is her father and mother, her brother Earl Brown, ex husband Frank Carney Sr., and a special granddaughter Desirae Dashon Douglas. Blessings and memories are left to cherish with: siblings: Georgia Byrd (Nick) of Fairbanks, Alaska; Kenneth Brown (JoAnn) of Portsmouth, Cirginia; Denise peoples (Minister Stephan Peoples) and Teresa Coleman (John) of Chesapeake, Virginia; her children : Reginald, Nara and Frank: Precious benefits shall all 10 grandchildren ponder: Umphria Matson, Selina Winnett (Kevin), Gina Virgilio, Reginald Carney Jr., Shanta Johnson, chanelle Johnson, Frank Carney III, Emilio carney and the late Desirae Douglas, all of Anchorage, Alaska; Damara Carney and Acacia Brown of Meridian, Mississippi. 6 great grandchildren, Antonio Winnett, Maryssa Winnett, Juliette Winnett, Miguel Barlow Jr., Kaleb Van Brugge, Isaiah Wakowski, Anya Van Bruggen, Sheila Barlow and a host of nephews, nieces and friends that were valued as extended family members.
