Mr. Abraham McKenzie, Sr.'s Obituary
A Sweet Spirit was born on April 13, 1944 to the late Washington McKenzie, Sr. and Katie R. McKenzie in the Rocky Community, Quitman, Mississippi and he was given the name of Abraham McKenzie. His godly life ended on May 13. 2021 at the Mississippi Veterans Home in Collins, Mississippi as he was called to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. From his childhood, he was a faithful member of the Mt. Gilead Missionary Baptist Church in Quitman, Mississippi where he served as Chairman of the Deacon Board, Librarian, Chairman of the Cemetery Committee and Assistant Song Leader in Sunday School. He graduated from Shirley-Owens High School in 1964 and went on to further his education at the former Jackson State College where he met and married Daisy York on July 28, 1968. Abraham enlisted into the United States Army and served for nearly 2 years. He was a brick mason by trade and he enjoyed fishing and hunting. Abraham and Daisy are the proud parents of five children; Dina Michelle of Shubuta, MS; Paige (Fred) Patterson of Waxahachie, TX, Roslynn McKenzie of Desoto, TX, Trinnia (Melvin) Smith of Jackson, AL, and Abraham (Deitra) McKenzie, II of Laurel, MS. He is preceded. in his death by his parents, two brothers; Jerry Wayne McKenzie and Nathaniel Davis and two sisters: Odessa McKenzie and Annis Collins. grandchildren: Sydnee Patterson, Serena Patterson, Nadia · McKenzie, Abraham McKenzie III, Nylah McKenzie, Aniya Franklin, Madison Smith and Seth Patterson; two sons-in-law, one daughter-in-law, 7 sisters: Ella (Richard) Young of Quitman, MS, Annie (Wilbur) Holmes of Mt Dora, FL, Lender (George) Carter of Quitman, MS, Barbara (Oscar) Westley of Brownstown, Ml, Carolyn (Sherman) Turner of Mableton, GA, Janet Baldwin of Hattiesburg, MS, and Pearline Cole of Mableton, GA; 8 brothers: Willie (Neldia) McKenzie of Quitman, MS, Leavester (Doris) McKenzie of Laurel MS, Calvin (Sarah) McKenzie, Washington (Faye) McKenzie Jr, Sylvester (Catherine) McKenzie, Advial (Dora) McKenzie, all of Quitman, MS, Noah D. Sterling of Shubuta, MS and Anthony (Teressa) McKenzie of Quitman, MS; one sister-in-law, Vertia Mae Davis of Quitman, MS and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
