Mrs. Addie Norwood's Obituary
Addie Ruth-McGlothin Norwoood, the second child of Walter and Addie McGlothin, was born November 8, 1947 in Meridian, Mississippi. Early in her childhood she joined the Congregation Church of God-Meridian, under the leadership of Mother Eugina Tate. Ruth often testified that the church was the bridge that brought her over. Ruth is a proud grduate of the T.J.Harris High School class of 1966. After high school, she attended Alcorn State University in Lorman, Mississippi. After leaving ASU she moved to Jackson, Mississippi where she worked as a secretatry at Jackson State University. As God continued to open doors for her she moved to Washington, DC., where she worked as an Executive Secretary for the Internal Revenue Service for numerous years. Shortly after her return to Mississippi, she married Charles Cooper of Quitman, Mississippi. Life took her from Meridian, to Germany where she and Charles lived for a number of years. After their tour in Germany the two moved back to Mississippi. Charles and Ruth also lived in La Place, Louisanna where she worked as a Social Worker for the State of Lousianna until her retirement. Making her way back home yet again on April 1,2006 she married Jodie Norwood. Ruth and Jodi lived in Mobil, Alabama for a number of years. After Jodie's retirement, they returned to Meridian to enjoy their retirement years together. No matter where life took Ruth she always came back home to her family,friends, and her church. She remains afatithful member of the Congregation Church of God-Meridian under the current leadership of her pastor and brotherin-law, Willie D. Price. In 2012, Ruth established, The Congregation Church of God Scholarship Fund which from this day forward will be known as the Addie Norwood Scholarship Fund, to assist students with purchasing school supplies and books. The scholarship Jund also offers incenties to students for positive behavior and academic accomplishments. On December 20, 2020 Ruth lived and offered before God her final testimony witnessing to the congregation of the goodness and greatness of the Lord. She cried loud and spared not saying, "Hallelujah anyhow don't let your troubles get you down. If Satan blocks your way. Stand right up and say Hallelujah anyhow," (Clay Evans.) Qn January 8, 2021 Ruth waited on the Lord to renew her strength. He gave her wings like eagles. She was not weary. She did not faint. She was not afraid as she mounted her wings and walked into the arms of the Lord. She is preceded in death by her father Walter McGlothin,maternal and paternal grandparents, her Mother-in-Law, Ida M. Noorwood and her brother Leo McGlothin. Ruth leaves to cherish her memories her husband Jodie, her mother, Addie, four brothers, Johnny, Steve (Maria), James, and William, four sisters, Joann, Hattye, Gloria, and Shalonda, her sister-in-law Evelyn Taylor, brother-in-law Willie. D. Price, her God children, Gloria, Michael, Tasha, and Antwone, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, newphews, cousins, and friends.
