Mr. Alcindor Turner's Obituary
Alcindor Turner was born May 26, 1970 in Jones County. He was reared by his mother Joyce Turner with the loving support of his grandparents Lou and Annie Mae Turner and his Aunt/Godmother Katie Ruth Gray. At an early age, Alcindor joined St. Mary B.C. and later in life he attended Pearlie Grove B. C. with his family. Alcindor graduated from Quitman High School in 1989 and was a member of the 1989 Class 4A State Runner Up basketball team and was also a member of the high school football and track teams. After high school, Alcindor began employment at the Solar Group, Quitman Knitting Mills, Quitman Public School Transportation Department, Burlington Industries, Carter Transportation, Circle Lane Trucking and Brandy Hearn Logging and various other trucking companies when called upon. "Al," "Big AL" and "High Stepper" (CB Handle) as he was known by family and friends, never met a stranger and he was a friend to all and always willing to lend a helping hand. He gave his heart in every endeavor that he embarked upon. Just to name a few; the Hornet's Youth Basketball League where Al and his wife coached faithfully and assisted with the organizing of the league. Al continued to direct the organization volunteering numerous hours of his time to the kids and community even when he didn't have a child of his own on the team. He loved agriculture, camping and mud-riding. He was involved in many community activities and was a member of the 270 Crew a community outreach organization. Alcindor was married to Miranda Miller for 24 years and to that union, God blessed them with two sons: Aldarius Turner & Titus Robert Miller. He was a loving and devoted husband and father and he adored his grandchildren. Alcindor instilled in his sons the value of hard work, honesty, character and integrity. He did not just talk the talk but he walked the walk when it came to training his child how to be a man. Alcindor was a wonderful son. He loved and cherished his mother, Joyce Jury. He was always right at his mother's call and he honored her and her husband Houston Jury Jr. with the highest respect. Al and Joyce had a very close bond and talked to each other almost every day. Not only did he cherish his relationship with his mother, he also had an unbreakable bond to his Aunt "Kate”. Al never missed an opportunity to spend time with his Aunt Kate. After living a blessed life, Al has gone to reunite with his maternal grandparents, Lou and Annie Mae Turner, one Aunt Bernice Ellis and one uncle John Earl Turner. He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Miranda Turner; his mother, Mrs. Joyce (Houston) Jury; two sons, Aldarius Turner & Titus Miller; one brother, Phylandus Turner; one stepsister, Lisa McCarty; Godmother, Katie Ruth Gray; Special Aunts, Minnie McCarty, Louvera Young & Pearlie Kerr; Special Uncle, John Earl (Pam) Turner; Mother & Father in Law, Robert & Katherine Miller Jr., four grandchildren and his aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and a host of friends.
