Mr. Alexander "Pop" Mitchell Sr.'s Obituary
Deacon Alexander Mitchell Sr. was born August 25, 1938. He was the 5th child born to the union of the late Arthur and Louvenia Burton-Mitchell of Porterville, MS. He attended school in Porterville, MS and furthered education at Coahoma Community College. He worked very hard to support his family and retired from the Friends of Children, Inc. where he worked as a bus driver and retired from there as a mechanic. He was also a volunteer firefighter with the Porterville Fire Department.
On April 19, 1963, he married the love of his life, the late Willie Mae. To this union, 5 children were born: 3 girls and 2 boys. One daughter preceded him in death. He was a loving father and taught his children to love the Lord and one another. He and Willie Mae were married for 43 years, until she passed away on March 1, 2006.
Alexander (Pop) accepted Christ at an early age and became a loyal and faithful servant at Mt. Zion Baptist Church where he served as Deacon. Alexander departed from his earthly home on June 11, 2017. He was blessed to reach the age of 78. He is preceded in death by his wife, Willie Mae and daughter, Linda.
He leaves to cherish his memory: (4) sisters: Eileen Dell and Bernice Henderson of Camden, NJ, Ruthie Reddick of Cleveland, OH and Minnie Moore of Meridian, MS; (4) children: Lorie of Porterville, MS, Darrin and Alexander Jr. (Carolyn) of Pearl, MS and Tammy (O.J.) Whitted of Meridian, MS; (1) niece they raised like a daughter, Beverly Adams of Florissant, MO; (2) nephews they raised like sons, Alvin Delk of Chicago, IL and Leon Delk; Nine grandchildren: Kardre, LaPorshia, D.J., Adrian, Antwain, Kadejah, Jamius, Jacinta and Keanna and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
