Mr. Alvin Edward Hopkins' Obituary
Alvin Edward Hopkins departed this life July 29, 2020 at Rush Hospital in Meridian, Mississippi after a period of illness. He was the second of nine children born July 20, 1941 to the union of Lewis E. Hopkins, Sr. and Annie Lee Harvey Hopkins in Meridian Mississippi. Preceding Alvin in death were his parents and one brother. Ahlin professed his life in Christ at a very young age at New Prospect Baptist Church in Savoy, Mississippi. He was an active member of the choir and of Sunday School. After relocating to Oakland, California, he united with the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Alvin continued his yearn for the love of Christ joining the choir and being active in other auxiliaries as well as one of the chefs in the church. Alvin completed grade school and was a student at Harris High School in Meridian Mississippi. He furthered his education at Mississippi Valley State College with a degree in English and was one cif the school's favorite mascot. Alvin later studied at Mississippi State University. He was an'employee of the Meridian Head Start Program as was also employed in various positions in his lifetime. Alvin's legacy will forever be cherished through the lives of his sisters and brothers: Barbara (Leon) Tingle of Meridian, MS, Annie Ruth (Monroe) Walton of Southaven, MS, Mae Frances (William) Washington of Meridian, MS, John Ralph Hopkins of Concord, CA, Louis (Orgender) Hopkins of Fairview, TX, Loreace (Carl) Long of Denton, TX, Carrie Sue (Lamar) Trussell of Corinth, TX; a special aunt, Bessie Kay Hopkins; fund memories will always be adored for love shown by all aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
