Mrs. Amy Lee McLaughlin Elliott's Obituary
On September 7, 2014, Sister Amy Lee McLaughlin Elliott, known to many as “Lil Amy”, was called home to be with the Lord. Amy was born in Lauderdale County of Mississippi on December 28, 1924 to the late Charlie and Ora Hopkins McLaughlin. At an early age, Amy confessed her life to Christ and united with the New Prospect Baptist Church, Savoy under the pastorate of the late Rev. J.C. Armstrong; in which she remained faithfully until her health failed. She served faithfully in the Mission’s Ministry, Ushers Ministry, served as the Young Matron’s counselor, and finance secretary. Amy was very inspirational in all phases of the ministry. Amy was joined in holy matrimony to Willie “Buster” Elliott, who preceded her in death. Amy was educated in the Meridian Public Schools and graduated from T.J. Harris High School in 1942, after which she completed cosmetology at McMurty Beauty College and was employed as a licensed cosmetologist. Amy was a dedicated beautician, at E.F. Young Beauty Shop for many years in which she loved styling hair and was very good at her profession. Amy served as a member of the R.B. Matthew Temple No. 739 and the Alpha Phi Alpha Beautician Club. Amy departed this life on Sunday, September 7, 2014 at the Comfort Care Nursing Facility in Laurel, MS. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Willie “Buster” Elliott, step mother, Eleanor McLaughln, sister, Mary Jean Ramsey and loving Aunt, Amy Hopkins McLaughlin. Amy’s memories are left to be cherished by three nieces, Ora Lee Holden, Bobbie Nell Heidelberg of Laurel, MS and Gloria Jones of Elyria, OH; two nephews, Oscar Ramsey and Gary Ramsey of Laurel, MS; two first cousins, Jessie Pearl Hardaway and Annie Jones of Meridian, MS; a special friend Mary Sams Dillard, of Country Club Hills, IL; one God-daughter, Karen Boston Smith, of Country Club Hills, IL; a host of great nieces, great nephews, cousins, friends and the New Prospect Church family.
