Mrs. Annie K. Patton's Obituary
Our beautiful mother, Annie Kate Coleman Spencer Patton was born July 19, 1931 in Russell, Mississippi to the late Milton (Buddy) Coleman and Viola Pringle Coleman Ruffin. She was the eldest of fourteen children. On June 24, 2024, our Heavenly Father called her home.
During her earthly life, she was actively involved in church.
She was a member of Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church for more than fifty years and served diligently in many capacities. For many years, she was youth choir director, often transporting children to and from rehearsal in her personal vehicle, and often treating them to McDonald's and Pizza Hut when rehearsals went well. Her musical interests were not limited to the enhancement and nurturing of youth. She sang alto in the Senior Choir and was the alto singer for a local singing group, "The Headstart Wonders". Her quest for spiritual growth propelled her to regularly attend Sunday School, to serve as a member and president of the Missionary Auxiliary and to gain Christian education by attending Baptist Conventions locally and statewide.
Our mother was not only a woman of faith, she was a woman of many talents.
She was known for cooking lavish meals. Her homemade yeast rolls, peach cob-bler, coconut cake, biscuits, cornbread and fried chicken were delicious. She kept her dining room table decorated for every season and holiday, always ready to serve a large number of guests.
Professionally, Mother was a successful cosmetologist and owner of Patton's Beauty Shop for approximately fifty years. Her skills brought her faithful customers from several counties in Mississippi and Alabama. She was a dedicated member of Meridian's Beauticians Club. She honed her entrepreneurial and cosmetology skills by regularly attending annual Bonner Brother's conventions as well as others to keep up with current trends. While running a successful business, raising seven children, and being a help mate to a husband, Mother still found time to participate in organizations such as the Marion Chapter OES #353 Eastern Star, visit and provide gifts for local nursing homes, and travel extensively within the United States and abroad.
Annie Kate Coleman Spencer Patton was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Lee Patton, her parents, Milton Coleman and Viola Coleman Ruffin, two sons, Ceolyar Spencer, Jr. and Arthur Lee Spencer, three grandsons, Cedric Jones, Medric Jones and Cedaryl Irby, two great-grandchildren, Sheldon Pearson and Sydney Hudson, and six siblings: Milton Coleman, Jr., Elsie Bee Brass-field, Robert Coleman, Matthew Coleman, Sr., Elsie Lee Brewster, and Geraldine Chappel.
