Mr. Archie Lee Brown's Obituary
Archie Lee Brown began his life on September 1, 1952 in Meridian, Mississippi. He was the son of the late James Brown and the late Johnnie Lucille Cameron Brown.
Archie was introduced to Christ and baptized at an early age, attending El Bethel Baptist Church. He was a scholar and an athlete. At the young age of 18, Archie earned a full four-year scholarship to Lincoln University in Jefferson City, MO. As a member of the first LU Blue Tiger football team that played in the Dwight Reed Stadium, he made his mark as a defensive tackle. Because of his success on the football field, Archie was inducted into the Lincoln Athletic Hall of Fame. Archie majored in Physical Education, and after graduation began his lifelong career as an educator in the Kansas City Missouri School District.
At Lincoln University, Archie met his wife, Stacia Bradley, with both graduating in 1974. Archie was invited to try out for three professional NFL teams with offers from two. On his way to Kentucky, he stopped by to visit Stacia and the rest is history.
The first school Archie worked at was Kumpf Elementary School in the Kansas City Missouri School District, the school where unbeknownst to him his wife attended in her youth. He taught physical education in elementary school, and coached at the high school level. Archie eventually became an administrator and served as a vice-principal at two schools. He retired as a principal at King Middle School in 2008. Seven years later Archie was made “an offer he couldn’t refuse” and came out of retirement and his final act as a principal was at Southwest High School in 2015.
As an educator, Archie mentored many teachers and administrators during his tenure. Not only a teacher, Archie was a coach for two high school football teams. He was known for his stern but gentle spirit. His kindness was demonstrated by the number of teachers, coworkers, and former students who smile broadly whenever Coach Brown’s name is mentioned. The “apples of his eye” were his grandchildren. Archie picked up his grandchildren from daycare, preschool, and school every day all their lives.
He leaves to cherish his memory Stacia, his wife, and sons Bradley (Debra) and Steven. Grandchildren: Alyssa, Ayden, Erin, and Izan. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Willie Brown, sisters, Edith Ray, Mary C. Adams, Annie Louise Burrage, Betty Jean Barron, and Mary Ann Latham. He will be lovingly remembered by his brother, Charles Ray Brown, and sister Johnnie Ruth Barfield (Johnny). He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and coworkers who will remember him fondly.
Funeral services for Mr. Archie Lee Brown will be held Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 11:00 am at Oak Grove Church of God, Bailey. Burial will follow in Little Hope Cemetery, Toomsuba with arrangements entrusted to Berry and Gardner Funeral Home. Mr. Brown, 71, of Kansas City, MO, died Thursday, October 12, 2023 in Kansas City, MO. A visitation will be held Friday, October 27, 2023 from 5:00 to 6:00 pm at Berry and Gardner Funeral Home’s OP Chapel.
