Mr. Arthur Gene Gaines' Obituary
Arthur Gene Gaines was born in Choctaw County,Alabama on January 16, 1949 and fell asleep in death on Sunday May 24, 2020 in Jackson Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his parents Willie Howard Anthony, Warnie Welch, Sallie B. Kennedy, brothers, Henry Lee Welch and Howard DarainAnthony, sister, Charlotte Dian Anthony/Crawford and grandparents, Robert Anthony and Mary HaydenAnthony,Needham Horn and Ada Gaines. Arthur attended and graduated from Middleton Attendance Center in 1968. Arthur joined the Navy on March 25,1969 and was honorably discharged February 18, 1975. Noted for his ability in electro-mechanics and was assigned to aviation duty. He served two years on the aircraft carrier John F. Kennedy.Arthur Gene was a member of The Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church in Houston Texas. He was the father to six children, Shandra Nikole Callender, Oris Ridley, Orri Smith,Arthur Gene Gaines Jr., Sherri Danielle Gaines, and Latania Lobban. Arthur was introduced to the electrical trade by his brother Henry Lee Welch, and made a life long career as an electrician working for various Electrical Companies across the United States, He also worked at many large nuclear power generation electrical facilities. Gene was instrumental in assisting his three younger brothers in getting started in a life long career as electricians. To date the five brothers amassed 230 years of experience in the electrical trade. As the eldest son, Arthur throughout his life had a brother/fatherly influence on all his brothers and sisters over the years. Their close ties are noted by their comments in the "I Remember When" portion of the program. Arthur is survived by his wife Claudette Marcia. Gaines, children Shandra Nikole Callender, Oris Ridley (husband Terry), Orri Smith,Arthur Gene Gaines Jr. (Wife Bridgette), Sherri Danielle Gaines, Latania Lobban. Grand children, Sha'Khil Ja'Mahl Kelly, Hannah Ridley,A'lexis Waverly Babbs,Armani Wray Babbs, Riquelme Ramjag,Ashton Treston, Lanae Jaquole Bowden, Christopher William, Carter Mason Gaines, and Geronimo Scott Gaines. Great grand child Anderson Kelly. Surviving brothers, James Micheal Welch, Calvin Lavonne Welch; Warnie Eugene Welch (wife Marie). Reginald D.Anthony, Larry Rogers, (wife Deborah), and Harold Dwight Anthony. Surviving sisters are Patsy Ann Fagan (husband James), Gladys Reed (husband William), Cherry Ann Welch/Perkins, Peggy Joyce Coleman (husband Norman). Catrice Radcliffe,Annie Olivia Anthony/Wallace, Tommie Jean Anthony/Kelly (husband Lemuel), Carolyn Faye Anthony/Woods, Kay Jeanette Anthony/Bullian (husband Mark), and Angela Denise Anthony. A very special uncle and aunt, Thomas and Ola Horn, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and special friends.
