Mr. Arthur James King's Obituary
Arthur James King was the first of four children born to the late James Eros King and Lee Alma King on August 6, 1929 in Marion, Mississippi. At an early age, Art King accepted Christ as his personal savior and was a lifelong member of St. Peter United Methodist Church. As boys, he and his brothers sang in various churches around Mississippi with their dad. Later as men, Zeno and Art continued that tradition by singing in the St. Peter Wesley Chapel Male Chorus and in the St. Peter Church Choir. Art graduated from Harris High School. He joined the Army in August 1950. He spent 20 years in the Army and served in the Korean and the Viefnam Wars. He was decorated with the Purple Heart and the Silver Star. Art met and married Essie B. Stennis on January 15, 1953. Four children were born to their union. Art was an adoring and dedicated husband for over 64 years and a wonderful and cherished father. Art and Essie were constant companions and were rarely seen without the other. Art King always had a kind word for anyone he met. He always had a funny story, an encouraging word, or a word of wisdom to share with everyone. He loved singing and you could often hear him singing a hymn while working in the yard. He had tons of energy and his military training kept him fit and always on the move! His wife Essie King preceded him in death along with two brothers and one sister -John King, Zeno King, and Annie Marie Diles. Arthur James King leaves to cherish his memory, his brother Roy King (Sarah), his sisters-in-law Mary Alice King (Zeno) and Vallonia Davis. He also leaves his children Debra King Wade (Clifton), Gregory King (Deanna), Keith King, Danita Boyd, and Tonya Smith (Ernest); eight grandchildren: Alex Powell (Nicole), Essie King; James King, LaToy Parker (Marcus), Justin Alexander; James Boyd (Sherika}, Eryka Boyd; and Tauna McCall (Girard}; 11 great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
