Mrs. Artis C. Turner's Obituary
On September 30, 1918, a beautiful baby was born to the proud parents of Morris and Daisy Powe. She was named Artis Claudine Powe, born in Shubuta, MS. As a young girl, she grew up as most children did by carrying books and by walking to school. She earned both a Nursing and Teaching Degree. Mrs. Artis went to be with her Heavenly Father on December 28, 2020 after years of faithfully serving Him. Artis met a young man that caught her interest so much that she married him. His name was John Turner, Sr. To this union, they became the parents of eight children: John Turner Jr., Tommy J. Turner, Sherman R. (Carolyn) Turner, Patricia (Arthur) Bridges, Verta Conners, Jennifer (Joe) Tiger, Roy Jerome Turner and Tony Turner (Deceased).
She is the mother of 8 children; grandmother of 22; great-grandmother of 51; great-great-grandmother of 17, with that being five generations.
Artis, known as “Dear:, loved her neighbors and friends; people in general. She was always giving with an abundance of love and kindness. She was a member of Congregational Church of God in Quitman, MS, serving as a Sunday School teacher, Program Chairman, Secretary, Church Mother and Bible Study Teacher.. She worked at any capacity in her church willingly.
She is the fourth child of five children: AD Chapman (Queenie), Drucilla Dunn, Cleo Cooper and Morris Powe, all of which preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death is her beautiful granddaughter, Petra Turner; her beloved son-in-law, Charles Conners, who gave her much joy; and daughter-in-law, Beatrice Turner.
