Ms. Baby Ruth Mosley was born on May 5, 1949, in Meridian, MS to the late John Evan and Mary Ellen Mosley. Ruth joined St. John Baptist Church in Marion, MS at a young age. Ruth received her education in Lauderdale County School System, graduating from Middleton Attendance Center in 1967. After graduation, she continued her education at Meridian’s Haven Business College graduating in May 1968.
In May 1968, she moved to Washington, D.C. to work at the U.S. Dept. of
Agriculture, (USDA), where she received exemplary work citations and
promotions. Ruth was proud to have worked at the USDA in the areas of Rural Development. The Rural Development Program aided rural communities in obtaining clean water, electricity, housing, and effective rural communication. By working at the USDA in Washington D.C. during this time, she also felt that she helped Mississippi and Lauderdale County benefit from these national programs. After 36 years, she retired from the USDA in 2004 and returned home.
When Ruth lived in the Washington, D.C. area, each year she returned home to visit her parents and siblings for the 4th of July and Christmas. Her whole family anticipated these visits and they could hardly wait for her to come home each year!
In addition to Ruth having a special bond with her sisters and brothers, she also had a great bond with each of her many nieces and nephews. She always remembered their birthdays and she would purchase special gifts for them to mail each year.
On Wednesday morning, May 17, Ruth departed this life at Anderson Hospital in Meridian, MS. She was preceded in death by her parents: John and Mary Mosley; her brothers: Royce, James, Jerry, and Jessie and her sister: Ida Mae.
Ruth’s survivors are her sisters: Mary Betts, Toomsuba, MS; Ann Betts, L.A. California; Dorothy (Hubert) Houston, Meridian, MS; her brothers, Bobby (Cecelia) Mosley, Meridian, MS; Edward (Adrian) Mosley, Meridian, MS; and Donald Mosley of San Antonio, TX, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
