Mrs. Barbara Joyce Sykes Scott's Obituary
Barbara Joyce Sykes was born on May 27, 1961 in Meridian, MS to QV and Laura Sykes. As she joined an older brother and sister, she completed their family. Barbara accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and maintained her membership at New Hope Baptist Church throughout high school. She joined West Mt Moriah Baptist Church upon her return to Meridian where she served as an usher and participated with several axillaries. Barbara attended Wechsler Elementary School, Carver and Kate Griffin Middle Schools and Meridian High School. She completed her undergraduate degree at Jackson State University and nursing school at Meridian Community College. She worked as a public health nurse until her retirement. Barbara enjoyed entertaining family and friends in her home. She loved preparing southern meals and baking pound cakes for her family to enjoy. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Scott; and her father, QV Sykes. Left to cherish her memory are her loving son, Jarred Scott; mother, Laura Dean Sykes; brother, Reginald Sykes and sister, Kaye (Jack) Williams; uncle, Larry (Camille) Lucas; Jerry's sons, Barren (Renee) Scott, Anthony Scott; Jerry's grandsons, Anthony, Jr, Yosiah and Tylan Scott; Jerry's brothers, Zebbie (Diane) Scott, Jr. and Zachary (Tracey) Scott; Jerry's sisters, Sharyn (Nathaniel) Jones, Linda (C. Bernard) Scarbrough, and Deborah Harrington; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and close friends.
