Mrs. Barbara Shadwick Thomas' Obituary
Barbara was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend. She was called Home after a brief and sudden illness July 24, 2021. We will miss her gentle nature, her wittiness, generosity of self, resourcefulness, eternal optimism, willingness to find the good in any hopeless situation, and her unconditional love. She is gone too soon and will be deeply missed in our lives, but we have faith that she can now rest in Jesus. Born to Thomas "A.T" and Bettie Rosabel! Shadwick, she was raised in the Nellieburg community. A life-long resident of Meridian, MS, Barbara attended Laird School, graduated from TJ Harris High School and earned a B.A. at Jackson College. Barbara was a member of Pilgrim Methodist Church. She married Levi Thomas July 15, 1955, and they both joined St. Joseph Church in the late 1950s, where they served as members of the parish Sacred Heart League.
Barbara loved spending time with her beloved grandchildren, solving crossword puzzles, needlework-a master crocheter, and potting plants. Her favorites were heirloom plants and those nurtured from just cuttings. She loved working in the garden and spending time outdoors enjoying nature, land and sea. Barbara enjoyed reading poetry, playing piano, singing and she knew all the words and verses of hundreds of songs and hymns. An avid sports fan, she enjoyed watching the Braves and the Saints.
