Bennie Ray Smith, Sr. was born August 16, 1950 to the late Booker T. Smith and Mary Louise Smith. He accepted Christ at an early age at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church in Meridian, MS.
Bennie Ray received his education at Middleton Attendance Center. He was a machine operator at Atlas Roofing Inc. for over 40 years until his retirement.
Bennie Ray was a very hard working man that provided for his family. He loved his wife, kids, and family the most. He was a very peaceful man that never met a stranger. He also loved fishing, dancing, telling stories, and joking.
Bennie Ray passed away peacefully at home at the age of 73 surrounded by his wife and family at his side.
Bennie Ray is proceeded in death by his father, Booker T. Smith, three brothers: Larry Wayne, Allen Gene, and Lyvonne Smith; his first wife, Margaret Ann Smith; one son, Michael Clayton; one granddaughter, his mother-in-law, Helen Jean Bush; father-in-law, W.C. Bush; and one brother-in-law, Anthony Bush.
Bennie Ray leaves to cherish: his wonderful wife, Christy Bush-Smith; 7 daughters: Tasha Hare, Stephanie Hare, Shenese Bush, Tyesha Bush, Beunca McDonald, Catrina McDonald-Mosley, and Lakisha McDonald; three sons: Bennie Ray Smith, Jr., Kerry Hare, and Jamon Clayton; 1 extended daughter, Felicia Smith; twelve siblings: Willie T. Smith, Clara (James) Henley, Carolyn (Johnnie) Stovall,
Mary (Arthur) Brown, Janice (Russell-deceased) Hopson, Rhonda (James) Moore, Theresa (Henry) Bell, Shirley (Paul) Andrews, Darrell Smith, Viola Smith, Victoria (Terrance) Tamayo, Vivian (Eddie) Jenkins; 4 sisters-in-law: Gladys Jenkins, Betsy Bush, Regina (Byron-deceased) Adkisson, and Priscilla Hollins; 4 brothers-in-law: Gerald (Karen) Bush, Curtis (Jasmine) Bush, Laquinn (Shalonda) Bush, and Mario Bush; 26 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
