Mrs. Bernice Humphrey Wilson's Obituary
Mrs. Bernice Humphrey Wilson transitioned from her earthly home on Saturday, June 20, 2015. She was born on March 28, 1928 in Meridian, MS, the younger daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Julius Herbert (Sarah Edwards Humphrey. Mrs. Wilson attended St. Joseph Catholic School, West Point High School and Meridian Community College. In 1945, Bernice was united in marriage to John (Bae) Wilson Sr. This union was blessed with four children. Bernice was a loving and devoted wife. She was committed to the welfare of her parents as well as her husband's parents. Her greatest joy and blessing was being a mother and grandmother. In addition to her biological children, she had many children she loved dearly in the church, community and Cincinnati. Mrs. Wilson joined St. Joseph Catholic School as a young child. As a teenager, she was baptized at St. John Missionary Baptist Church and remained a faithful member up to her death. At St. John, she was blessed to serve in many capacities; President of the Mission Ministry, Dean of Christian Education, Sunday School Ministry, Music Ministry, and Deaconess Ministry. Mrs. Wilson was actively involved in the Second New Hope Consolidated Association as the director of the Lauderdale County Group and Dean of the Consolidated Congress. She served as Christian Education Director and Vice President-at-large of the East Mississippi Baptist State Convention, Inc. Women's Auxiliary. Her quest for knowledge and Christian Education was magnified as she took advantage of the many advance courses, seminars and educational opportunities available to keep abreast of leadership and instructional tactics that would enhance her ability to properly lead and teach God's children In her efforts to learn, educate, and lead; she was credited with many achievements and awards from the district, state and national levels. Mrs. Wilson cites her most valuable and prestigious award is the one issued from Mt. Calvary's hill. This process equipped, allowed, permitted and approved her to receive her B.A. Degree, She is truly BORN AGAIN. Mrs. Bernice was a very creative and a hard-working person. Her ingenuity helped support her family and attained her goal of assuring that her children had a better life and greater opportunities than she had. She worked at Anderson Hospital, East Mississippi Power Company, and the Masonic Home. She retired from Meridian Regional Hospital as a Licensed Department Supervisor after twenty-three years of service. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; a daughter, Brenda and two sons John Jr. and Julius Herbert; a great-granddaughter, Tawana M. Gantt, a great-great-granddaughter, Kaniya M. Gantt; her parents, a brother, Verrell Humphrey and her beloved sister, Minnie Friend. Those who cherish her memory and await a glorio_us reunion_ are: her dau_ghter Rev. A. Edwinna Wilson Davis; a special nephew (son) Robert (Diana) Kendricks; grandchildren, Kevm Brooks, Pittsburgh, KS, Tiffany (Richard) Clark, Meridian, Randy Gantt, Washington, D.C., Derek (Mayola) Scruggs, West Palm Beach, FL; Hollie Rogers, Dallas, Texas, Katrina Davis, Cincinnati, OH, Julius (Shanika) Wilson Jr., Shauna (Dondra Hailey, Memphis, TN, and Israell Wilson, Meridian; seven great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
