Mrs. Bertha Mae Goodwin's Obituary
Bertha Goodwin was born November 13, 1938 in Porterville, Mississippi to the union of Johnnie and Rachel Thedford. She united with Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. She later united with Kynett Pilgrim United Methodist Church in Brookhaven, MS. Bertha graduated from Spencer High School in Scooba, Mississippi. She attended Mississippi Valley State University, where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. Bertha married Robert Boston Goodwin on September 7, 1963 until his death in March 1977. She taught at Hazelhurst High School for 31 years as a math, typing, and shorthand teacher. She was chosen as Copiah's County Teacher of the Year. Bertha
departed this life on Saturday November 4, 2023.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Boston Goodwin, her daughter, Lisa Goodwin, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie Thedford, her sister, Dorothy R. Greer, brothers, Earmon Thedford and Joe Thedford.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her son Tony Gonzales Goodwin, Glendale, CA; two granddaughters, Emory Goodwin, Glendale, CA, and Maya Goodwin, Glendale, CA. One great-granddaughter, Jaylah; sister, Fannie (Ray) Hunt, Norfolk, VA; one brother Samuel (T) Thedford, Porterville, MS; brother-in-law, William H. Greer, Moss Point, MS, and one very special nephew, Bruce Anthony Mennis, Columbus, GA. In addition to a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
