Mrs. Bessie Mary Smith's Obituary
On March 18, 1943, a daughter, Bessie M. Coleman, was born to the union of Mr. Otho Lee and Alberta Coleman. Bessie M. Coleman arrival was blessed, and she grew into a loving daughter. She attended Newton County School where she completed her education. She departed this life January 21, 2024
at her home.
She moved to Meridian in 1963 and started working at Meridian Hotel; she worked for numerous family members helping to take care of their children which gave her so much joy. She later started working at North Station post office and helped her husband run his janitorial service. She worked until 2021 and then retired and spent time relaxing at home. Mother Bessie M. Smith joined Anderson Temple Church of God In Christ in 1964, where she serviced on the Kitchen Committee and Motherboard faithfully until the Lord called her home.
She leaves to cherish her memories three children, Calvin (Juanita) Williams, Philadelphia, MS, two daughters, Vickie D. Smith Meridian, MS and Miranda (James) Cooper Meridian, MS, two sisters Myrtle Coleman, Meridian, MS and Annie P. Thames, Dayton, OH; seven devoted grandchildren; Lerickço L Smith, Jarvis (Shakera) Jackson, Meridian, MS, Katisha S. Smith, Jasmine (Timothy)
Clayton San Diego, CA, Monae Williams; two great-grandchildren, Elijah Braylon Sha'Mari Toole and Timothy Maquell Clayton, Jr, a host of relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Otho Lee Coleman & Alberta Coleman, two brothers Robert Coleman, Otho Lee Coleman, four sisters, Lillie Lue Pickens, Joella Coleman, Arma L. Richardson, Daree Stapleton and one son, Gregory J. Smith; husband, Robert I. Smith and one grandson, Damien M. Jackson.
