Mrs. Betty Jean Cameron's Obituary
Betty Jean Cameron was born September 27, 1935 to the late Eli Smith and Johnnie Beatrice Bland Smith. She was a lifelong resident of Quitman MS. Betty transitioned into eternal life on Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at her residence. She is preceded in death by her parents, Eli Smith Sr. and Johnnie Smith; her husband, Ezell Cameron; one son, Kenneth Cameron; five brothers, L D Smith, Henry Lee Smith, John L Smith, Thomas Smith and Eli Smith Jr.; four sisters, Carrie Mae Ruffin, Ethel Mae Simmons, Christie Bell Brown and Vernell Blakely.
Betty was a member of Lillie Rose Baptist Church of Quitman, MS. She attended and graduated from Shirley Owens High School Class of 1955. She was an outstanding star basketball player and this led her to receive a complete scholarship to a nearby college to continue her career in basketball. During her lifetime, she worked at Burlington Industries, Quitman Knitting Mills and later became her own boss in the homemaker industry until her retirement.
Betty leaves to cherish her memories: two sons, Stevie (Elease) Smith of Augusta, GA and Kerry Cameron of Quitman, MS; three daughters, Lynda Ivory of Suisun CA, Zella Cameron and Shawana Sumrall, both of Quitman, MS; one sister, Tommie J. Collins of Vossburg, MS; 17 grandchildren. 31 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
