Mrs. Callie Mae Sims' Obituary
Callie Mae Sims Lewis age 92, departed this life on October 4, 2021 at Anderson Memorial Hospital, Meridian, MS. She was born to the late Mary Thompson and Willie Lewis of Savoy, MS. She was the youngest of seven children. Callie was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie Lee Sims, one son, Car Vann Sims; one daughter, Patricia Sims McMillian; her parents, four brothers, Luther, Carl, Jimmie, and Willie; two sisters: Mattie Lewis Smith, and Katie Lewis Price; four granddaughters, Tas'Shea Sims, Canesha Sims, Krysta Lewis Bell, and Barbara McMillian. Callie's childhood memories were limited as a child because her mother died when she was eight years old. In Callie's remembrance, she became a member of the Poplar Springs Baptist Church of Savoy, MS, where she confessed her life to Christ and was baptized. She often spoke of food being prepared for the many church gatherings and picnics. She often reminisced on the long hours spent at church revivals. "All good times" she would say. Callie moved to Meridian after the death of her father. She attended Wechsler Elementary School and TJ. Harris High School in Meridian, MS. Callie later married the la(e Johnnie Lee Sims and to this union eight children were born. Four girls: Patricia, Sandra, La Verne and Tina;four boys: Johnny, Travis, Howard, and Car Vann. Callie was a hard worker. She was employed as a meat packer, a waitress, and hotel service worker. She later attended Meridian trade school (Meridian Junior College Campus) and receiv,ed a certificate as a nurses aide, which led to her employment with East Mississippi State Hospital where she was employed for may years she later became employed with Broad Moore Nursing Home from where she retired. Callie Mae was a loving mother and loved caring for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. In her spare time she would be found watching her favorite television show "Gun Smoke." She had a great passion for dancing and could out dance any one on the dance floor. Callie loved spending time with her family, friends and loved ones. Before her health failed she loved fellowshipping with First Union Baptist Church and Sunlight Baptist Church. She will truly be missed by She leaves to cherish her precious memory, loving children: Sandra Sims Jones (Larry), Johnny Sims (Janet), Laverne Sims Perry (Bill) Travis Sims, Howard Sims (Mattie) and Tina Sims Harrison (Jamie); all of Meridian, thirty-three grand children, ninety-six great grandchildren, forty-three great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss her dearly.
