Mr. Calvin "Buddy" Watson, Jr.'s Obituary
Calvin "Buddy" Watson Jr. was born May 27, 1934 to Calvin Watson, Sr. and Ola Johnson Watson. When he was nine years old, Calvin confessed faith in Christ at the Fairview Missionary Baptist Church. He was ordained as a deacon at the age of 23. In later years, he united with New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church, Meridian, Mississippi, where he continued to serve faithfully as a deacon. Because of his love of music, his deacon assignment was to the Choir ministry. He was also active in the Home Missionary Society. His devotion to Christ's people and New Prospect was exemplified through the service he rendered. He was faithful until his health failed. He received his education in old Tripplet School during the 1940's. On April 5, 1958, Calvin was united in holy matrimony to Doris Juanita Davis. From this union one son was born, Bill. Calvin was a wonderful husband and father. Calvin was a loyal and dedicated worker. He was employed by the Mooney Furniture Company from 1952-1954. Forforty-five years, Calvin was a dependable employee of Rush Foundation Hospital. He wore many hats and he worked in many areas of the hospital as a porter, greeter, in the emergency room and in plant operations. He was the first male Black orderly to work at Rush. Upon retiring in 1999, he was inducted into the Rush Hall ofFame. Calvin also worked for Central Baptist Church (Southside) for 48 years as the custodian. He was just as reliable to Central Baptist Church as he was to Rush Hospital. Calvip departed his earthly life August 14, 2P14 at Rush Foundation Hospital. He is preceded in death by hi$ parents, one brother Elargie Watson, Sr, five sisters, Luella Davis, Emma Walker, Maybelle Boxsley, Ezola Martin, and Lula Newell. He leaves to cherish his memory; a loving wife, Doris, his son, William (Bill) Watson, one sister Mary McCoy(Frank) all of Meridian, Mississippi, a stepson, Ezzie Charles Davis (Memphis, Tennessee), a stepdaughter, Effie Lyles (Robert) of Jackson, Mississippi; four grandchildren Lauren and Raven Lyles Qackson, MS); Michael and Antonio Watson of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, two sister-in-laws; Flora Mae (Luther) Ellis and Carolyn Jean Davis both of Meridian, Mississippi, and a host nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
