Mrs. Carla Vaughn-Perkins' Obituary
Carla Vaughn Perkins was born on July 5, 1975, the daughter of Celois Vaughn and the late Cloreace Hopkins Vaughn. As a child, Carla accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at the New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church, Savoy, Mississippi. She was nurtured in the faith and active in the choir, mission and Sunday School ministries. She later joined the West Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church, Nellieburg, Mississippi and served faithfully until her health would no longer permit. Carla is a product of the Meridian Public School District. She was an excellent student. After graduating from Meridian High School in 1993, she attended Jackson State University where she earned a degree in psychology. While there, she pledged Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated, Delta Pi Chapter. She pursued and obtained Master and Specialist degrees from the University of West Alabama in Livingston, AL. Her love for people led her into the workforce as a licensed social worker and case manager at Weems. Later she returned to Meridian Public Schools as a teacher and behavior specialist, touching the lives of many. Through these avenues, she fostered many friendships in her community, such as the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. Carla married Carrio Perkins, the love of her life on March 20, 2004. To this union were born two wonderful children, Jayda and Amir. She adored her children. There was not anything she wouldn't do for them. She invested all . she had in them to ensure success. Carla had the gift of developing special relationships with her family and friends. She had a unique and timeless bond with her first cousins. She also had a great sense of humor; her smile and laughter would brighten your day. She took joy doing all she could to bring people together. She had a servant heart. Her hands were rarely still. She spent a lot of her time doing all she could to encouraging others in becoming their personal best. Carla lived a courageous life. She lived a victorious life. Many have been inspired by her strength. Her testimony always acknowledged that the Lord was keeping her.
Carla Vaughn Perkins entered eternal peace victoriously on Thursday, January 14,2021. She was preceded in death by her beloved mother Cloreace Hopkins Vaughn, , devoted maternal Grandfather Joe Hopkins and her paternal Grandparents Celois, Sr. and Hattie Vaughn. She leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her loving husband Carrio, daughter Jayda; son Amir, and stepson Jalil all of Meridian, MS; a loving father Celois (Arthurinel Vaughn, Meridian, MS; two brothers Daniel (Ericka) Vaughn, Meridian, MS and Gregory (Andrea) Vaughn, Eden Prairie, Minnesota; a devoted sister, Kristina (Rodney) Vaughn Phillips, Jackson, MS; her loving and devoted grandmother, Bessie Kate Harvey Hopkins, Meridian, MS; three uncles, Joe Hopkins, Odell (Sylvia) Hopkins, and Shelby Lee Vaughn; four aunts, Teresa Cornelius, Monica (Tim) Rue, Sylvia Diane, and Dorothy Brewster; two nieces, Jordyn and Dakota; two nephews, Johnathan and Austin; and a host of loving cousins, family and friends. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
