Mrs. Carol Jean Johnson's Obituary
Carol was born to the late Robert Chiles and Katie Hardy on May 9, 1950. Carol passed away peacefully January 18, 2015 after a gradual decline in health. She was surrounded and supported by her loving family and caregivers during the last days of her life. Carol was educated in the public school system. She graduated from Harris High School and furthered her education at Meridian Junior College. She was preceded in death by her father, step father, grandparents, and two step sisters. Carol Jean was united in holy matrimony to Charlie "Jackie" Johnson and to this union one son Daryl Johnson was born. Carol's journey with God began at an early age at St. Elizabeth United Methodist Church. She later joined Haven Chapel United Methodist Church where she was an active member until her health failed. She was a faithful servant among her brothers and sisters in Christ. Carol Jean enjoyed singing in the choir and playing the piano. A veteran with the Air Force National Guard, SSGT Johnson served her country for over 10 years. While serving in the Guard, Carol earned several medals including the Training Ribbon, Reserve Meritorious Service Ribbon, and the Longevity Service Award. She received an honorable discharge in 1990 due to complications with health. For 23 years, Carol Jean was a dedicated worker at Multi County Community Service Agency where she served as a program director. She was an example of diligent stewardship and faithful commitment. Carol was known to be willing to lend a helping hand in the community wherever needed. Her passion was to make sure low income families would have a smile on their faces after receiving financial assistance in a challenging world. She leaves to cherish her memories: her mother and caregiver, Katie Stennis of Meridian, MS; one son: Daryl (Barbara) Johnson of Southfield, Michigan; two granddaughters: Maya Johnson and Nema Johnson of Southfield, Michigan; two sisters: Edith Jones of Augusta, GA and Lorri (Randy) Brown of Atlanta, GA; one brother Robert (Barbara) Raymond of Demopolis, AL ;two step sisters: Patricia Campbell and Rita (Homer) Darden; three step brothers: Bill Stennis, Charles (Dorothy) Stennis and Kenneth Stennis; one nephew Jarvis (Quantessa) Stennis of Buford, GA; a devoted friend, Letha Dunn; God-son, Kalail Clark and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and relatives.
