Mrs. Carrie Sherman-Cohen's Obituary
CARRIE SHERMAN-COHEN was born April 21, 1922 in York, Alabama. She was raised by the late Rev. Casper and Mrs. Lula Shennan of Meridian, Mississippi. Her earthly journey ended on January 10, 2013 at Rush Foundation Hospital, Meridian, MS. CARRIE lived her early years in Meridian, Mississippi, and she later moved to Miami, Florida where she resided witil she returned to Meridian to be near her family. She accepted Christ early in life and united with the Saint John Missionary Baptist Church in Meridian, MS. After moving to Miami, Florida, she united with the New Providence Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. James Walthour. She served faithfully in the Ushers' Ministry as well as other ministries in the church while health prevailed. CARRIE was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was known for her elegance and gracefulness. She was united in holy matrimony to Ben Cohen, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by a niece, Katie L. Washington and a nephew, Larry Shennan. CARRIE leaves to cherish her memory: a loving and devoted sister, Allean Shennan-Brown of Meridian, MS, a devoted nephew, Joe (Jean) Sherman of Meridian, MS, a loving niece, Gracie (Sylvester) Herlong of Lauderdale, MS, five grand nephews, William Isaac, Jacksonville, FL, Sylvester (Vicki) Herlong, Jr., Meridian, MS, Timothy, Deon, and Leon Herlong of Lauderdale, MS, four grand nieces, Latrina Sherman of Owings Mills, MD, Valerie (DeCedric) Sherman-Davidson of Jackson, TN, Joanna Hill of Meridian, MS and Maretta Hudson of Philadelphia, MS, a special great grand niece and nephew, Sheredia Sherman and Dequan Blake of Jacksonville, FL, one sister-in-law, Louvenia Hodges of Meridian, MS, a very special friend, Mrs. Katie Pearl Sims of Meridian, MS and a host of great-grand nieces and nephews and friends in Meridian, MS and in Miami, Florida.
