Mr. Celester "Sip" Carpenter's Obituary
Celester Carpenter, known as “Sip” or “Lester” was born to the late John Willie Carpenter and Martha McCarty Carpenter on August 25, 1938 in Lauderdale County, Mississippi. He was 77 years young at his passing on Saturday morning, November 28, 2015, a little after 7:00 a.m. Three brothers, Willie James, Frank, and Percy and a wonderful love, Mrs. Catherine Cage, preceded him in death. At a very young age, Celester and Barbara Hayes met, married and added to their union a daughter, Donna.
Sip moved to California, residing and working there for many years. He worked at Sparling Buick Company in Inglewood until he became disabled. He was also the owner and operator of C and C Auto Detail Shop in Inglewood.
Sip could lift up a room just by walking into it. He was loved by many, young and old, on his journey through life from Shubuta to Los Angeles to Compton to Victorville where he resided until his health began to fail. he moved back to Mississippi and united with the St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church.
Lester leaves a lot of wonderful memories with his family and friends. He leaves cherished memories with his daughters, Barbara (Dan) Williams of Shubuta, Mississippi and Donna (Edward) Williamson of Waynesboro, Mississippi; one son, Prentis (Arleen) Nobles of Vossburg, Mississippi; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mamie Wallace (who cared for him daily) of Shubuta, Mississippi and Mattie Earl Stewart of New Jersey; step sister, Sandra McCleland of Meridian, Mississippi; sister-in-law, Dorothy Lee Carpenter of Shubuta, Mississippi; a host of loving and devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Lester shared a special love with James, Johnny, and Beatrice Cage all of California.
