Mrs. Cennie Brassiell Young's Obituary
Cennie 'Mae' Brassiell Young' was the youngest of three children, born to the union of the late Monroe Brazil, Sr. and Mable Ramsey Brazil on August 5, 1932 in Meridian, MS. At an early age Cennie accepted Christ at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Meridian, MS. She peacefully departed at her home on November 14, 2012. She received her early education in the public schools of Meridian in Lauderdale County, MS. She graduated from T J. Harris High School, where she was Class President and Salutatorian in 1951. After high school, she begin her teaching career. Between 1953 and 1968, she taught in several different schools in Lauderdale Count;y, MS including Stevenson: in Daleville, MS and Middleton Attendance Center in Lauderdale County. While working, Cennie furthered her education with her matriculation from Jackson State College (now Jackson State University) in 1962 (Bachelors of Science in Education) and the Atlanta University (now Clark Atlanta University) in 1970 (Masters of Arts). She also lived and taught in Buffalo, NY.
She was married to the late Henry H. Young, Jr. for over 25 years. To this union, one son was born, Henry Ill. The Youngs were faithful members of Ward Memorial AME Church in Washington, D.C. At Ward, Cennie was a member of the Willing Workers Club and served as President for 15 years. Cennie attended Sunday School, worked diligently on the Benevolent Committee and was a member of the I.A. Miller Scholarship Committee and established a scholarship in her husband's memory. Cennie worked as a teacher and guidance counselor in the District of Columbia Public School system up until her retirement from Armstrong Adult Education Center in 1991. In addition to being actively involved with church, she was also involved with several neighborhood, community and civic associations including the Triangle Neighborhood Club, the Washington Parent Group Fund, where she served a term as President and the D.C. / Baltimore Area Meridianites where she served as President and Treasurer. Cennie Mae, as she is well known to family and friends in Mississippi, leaves to cherish her memory, a devoted son, Henry Young, III , two brothers Monroe Brazil, Jr. (Ruby) of Los Angeles, CA, Willie Edward Brazil, Sr. of Los Angeles, CA, a special Aunt Ruby Brazil Smith of Meridian, MS, daughter-in-law Linda Sheree Young, grandsons Nicholas Roosevelt Henry Young and Noah Bradley Young, special friends Gwendolyn Terrell and Doris Walker and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Cennie was a beloved mother, grandmother, wife, sister and friend who lived a blessed life. She loved the Lord and trusted solely in Him. We, her family, rejoice in the knowledge that the Lord has received her spmt and she now rests in the Lord.
