Charles Edward Cherry was born February 6, 1972 to Elizabeth Portis and the late Frank Portis in Meridian, MS. Charles accepted Christ at an early age and united with Sunlight Baptist Church in Meridian, MS. Charles attended Kate Griffin High School in Meridian, MS. He was a hard worker and a dedicated father that provided for his family. He departed this earthly life on May 14, 2020 at his resident in Meridian, Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Portis; maternal and paternal grandparents. He leaves to cherish his precious memories: a loving mother, Elizabeth Ann (Jones) Portis of Meridian, MS; two (2) children, Shaquita Cherry of Meridian, MS and Gregory Charles Cherry of North Carolina; three (3) grandchildren; two (2) sisters, Brenda Jones and Victoria Portis both of Meridian, MS; one (1) brother, Michael Portis of Meridian, MS; three(3) aunts, Janet L. Roach (John), Shirley Little Jones and Connie Jones all of Atlanta, GA, Tonya Banks (Alce) of Meridian, MS,· one (1) uncle, Garner Ted Jones (Mattie) of Hartford, Connecticut; nephews, John' Terrius Clayton, A 'Renzo Portis, and Davorous Jones all of Meridian, MS; nieces, Erica Jones of Meridian, MS and Laticia Jones of Houston, Texas; best friends, Billy Malone (Dollar Bill), and neighborhood friend, Dorothy Penry both of Meridian, MS; a host of cousins and friends that loved him dearly.
