Rev. Charles Edward Wash, Sr.'s Obituary
Charles Edward Wash was born July, 10, 1939 in Eastbuchie, MS to the late Q.C. “Quick” Wash, Sr. and Bertha Lee “Jenny” Walker Wash. He was the second of thirteen children born to this union. Charles departed this life on Sunday, May, 5, 2019, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center in Meridian, MS. Charles was educated in the Jones County Public School system and attended Roosevelt High School, where he graduated in 1962. He served as a school bus driver for the South Jones County School district during his last two years of high school, which spurred his love for driving and ultimately led to a career of more than 30 years as a truck driver and travels all over the United States.
He joined the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Eastabuchie, MS at an early age, where his love for the ministry was born and nurtured.
His interest in becoming a minister began as early as the age of 24 and after studying Theology at Emory University in Atlanta, he began serving as a local pastor with the United Methodist Conference on June 16, 1983. During his tenure in the ministry, some of the churches that he served as pastor includes but are not limited to: St. Paul UMC in Macon, MS; New Hope UMC in DeKalb, MS; Blues Chapel UMC in Scooba, MS; Keys chapel UMC in Porterville, MS; Tamola Bethel UMC in Lauderdale, MS; and Sweet Pilgrim UMC in Shibuta, MS. He served faithfully until his health failed in 2007.
On December 5, 1999, Charles met the woman that he considered his match, he love of his life, Teresa Campbell. They were united in holy matrimony on September 16, 2006 and are separated only by death.
In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by five brothers: Q.C. Wash, Jr, Roy Wash, Joe Lee Wash, Earnest Wash and John Thomas Wash; as well as three sisters: Elizabeth Wash-Booth, Ella Mae Wash-Lindsey and Cora Jean Wash-Johnson.
He leaves to cherish his memories: a loving and devoted wife, Teresa Wash; two daughters, Beverly Wash and Latoya Jackson; one son, Charles Wash Jr.; one stepson, Cory Gowdy; one stepdaughter, Deandria Spells (Gabriel); one adopted son, Stacy Harris; two sisters: Betty Wash Prince and Catherine Wash Payton; two brothers: Clarence Wash and William Ralph Wash; five brothers-in-law: L.V. Johnson, Michael Campbell, John Tartt, Gary Campbell and Reginald Tartt; two sisters-in-law: Joyce Ann Wash and Eva Wash; father-in-law, Johnnie Tartt; and a host of nephews, great nephews, nieces, great nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends whom will miss him dearly.
