Mr. Charlie Mann Nichols' Obituary
Pastor Charlie Mann Nichols was born on May 3, 1939 in Newton County to Reverend Joe Alter and Letha Ann Moore Nichols. He was loved and reared in a Christian home. He was blessed with five brothers and nine sisters. His parents, three brothers, Joe Nathan Nichols, Clarence Nichols and Reverend Billy Nichols; two sisters, Ivory Rose Nichols and Clareth Thompson, two children, Charles and Malinda Nichols preceded him in death. Charlie received an education from Newton High School. Charlie was employed in a variety of professions, but eventually retired from the Mississippi Department of Transportation. He was an entrepreneur through various avenues of farming. He was known around Mississippi for his homemade sugar cane syrup. He grew various or-ganic foods and raised livestock for the community. Poultry was one of his favorite forms of agriculture, but he enjoyed them all. Charlie accepted Christ at an early age. He was active as a Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, Bible Study Teacher, Choir Director, and Chief Usher. He served the church in many capacities. Shortly after this time, he accepted the call into the ministry. Charlie pastored 3 churches simultaneously for 44 years. These churches included Mt. Zion in Meehan, MS for 22 years; Union Baptist in Kemper Spring for 21 years; Kemper County and Old Mt. Calvary M.B. Church, Lawrence, MS for 42 years, which he remained until God called him home. Charlie Mann was known as a meddling, playful, but very determined, authentic Christian man. His love for his family was evident by his hard work ethic and willingness to consistently provide whatever was needed. On Monday July 24, 2017, Charlie Mann Nichols went to be with his Lord while hospitalized at Anderson's Regional Hospital of Meridian, Mississippi. Those who will cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife of fifty-one years, Irene of Newton, Mississippi; they were married September 18, 1965; three daughters, Marion "Treacy" (Shawn) Croft, Chunky, Mississippi; Katrina Nichols (Eric) McCalphia of Newton, Mississippi and Rhonda LaShun (Charles "Chico") Gor-don of Aberdeen, Maryland; two brothers, Joe (Lilly) Nichols, Jr., of Gulfport, MS and Bobby (Linda) Nichols, of Newton, Mississippi; seven sisters; Jeanette Taylor of San Bernardino, California, Edna Ruth McCune of Las Vegas, Nevada, Louise Stubbs of Gulfport, Mississippi, Mildred Cole of Montgomery, Alabama, Martha (Freddie) Rupert of Gulfport, Mississippi, Edwina (Sylvester) Sumrall of Gulfport, Mississippi and Dianne (James) Dallas of Jackson, Mississippi; eight Grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, a God-Daughter, Tameka Johnson, two adopted daughters, Essie Bingham and Bonnie Norman, both of Newton, Mississippi, and a host of other relatives and friends.
