Mr. Charquez Xavier Mercer's Obituary
On Friday October 23, 2020 in Meridian, Mississippi, God allowed Charquez “Chuck” Xavier Mercer to carve his last magnificent masterpiece into the hearts of his loved ones, completed his journey and come home to join his Heavenly Father. On November 4, 1994, Charquez was born to Atika Ball-Andrews and Charles Hersey in Meridian, MS. At a young age, Charquez was very active in the church and community. Growing up, he was a member of Saint Elizabeth United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the youth choir. He also enjoyed playing with dogs, drawing, playing soccer, and playing basketball. He also was a lover of all sports, but a number one fan of Alabama Crimson Tide and New Orleans Saints. Throughout the years, Charquez was educated in Meridian Public Schools and graduated from Meridian High School, where he was a member of the class of 2014. After exiting high school, he moved to Virginia with his Aunt Tekisha Mercer, and entered his journey in the workforce. Charquez later return to Meridian, MS, where he attended Saint Paul Primitive Baptist Church and remained a devoted member and cameraman until his untimely death. Charquez obtained his Associates degree from Meridian Community College and was pursuing a degree in Architectural Graphic Design at Mississippi State University. Charquez enjoyed creating things through art, woodworking and construction. He obtained many certifications, such as Forklifting, OSHA, and Licensed Construction. He spent many of his days working with his Grandfather, Rev. Larry Mercer, beautifying homes and the community. He was the owner of Mercer, Inc., a construction business, that specialized in flooring, woodwork, and building homes.
He was preceded in death by his paternal great-grandparents, Howard and Katherine Mercer, Annie E. Hersey and Charles F Hersey, Sr. Charquez leaves to cherish his memory his sons: Korbin Demontae Mercer and Xavier Zah'quez Mercer; mother, Atika (Jeffrey) Andrews; fathers, Charles Hersey, Chris Cole of Washington, DC; uncle Robert E. Hersey; sister, Shadana Sims; grandparents, Rev. Larry and Lasandra Mercer; Aunts, Tekisha Mercer, Cameilia (Monique) Horner, Teresa (Tony) Price, Ella (Percy) Clark, Debra (Walter) Cullum, Mary (Labraska) Collins, Betty Hersey, Jeanette (Larry) Wragg; and First Cousins, Diamond, Jaylin, Keshawn, and Kemond, maternal great-grand parents, a host of great uncles and aunts, cousins, and extended family members.
