Mrs. Christine Washington's Obituary
Christine Mathis Washington transitioned into eternal rest on January 26, 2020 with her family by her hospital bedside in Grand Blanc, MI. She was born March 14, 1938 to the late AG and Gertrude Mathis in DeKalb, MS.
She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior at an early age and later attended the First Trinity Missionary Baptist Church in Flint, Ml.She graduated from Little Rock High School in Kemper County, MS. She later attended Piney Woods Jr. College and graduated from Jackson State University, in Jackson, MS with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. She earned a teaching certificate and started a career in teaching while living in upstate, New York.She left the teaching profession to have more flexibility to be a mom and support their children's tennis programs and careers which included world traveling. During that time, she also worked at General Motors. Christine read her bible on a daily basis. She often would end her evenings with a relaxing bath followed by prayer while reading her bible. Her favorite bible verse was Matthew 5:8 -"Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God." At times, she read other inspirational books, worked crossword puzzles and played word games. She also had quite a green thumb and enjoyed gardening. She loved music and especially hymns. If you wanted to get her charged up, all you had to do was turn on an NBA ballgame with one of her favorite teams (LA Lakers, Golden State Warriors or Cleveland Cavaliers). She married William Washington December 28, 1961 and they lived together in Swartz Creek, Ml until her passing. With her passing, she also leaves many loved ones to cherish her memories: Children: MaliVai Washington(Jennifer), Micheala McKenzie(Shawn), Masanja Washington, Mashiska Washington, and Mashona Washington. Grandchildren: (Immanuel, Maimonides, and Hadassah Abraham) and (Noah and Zeta Washington). Siblings: SK Mathis (Ann), Clemmie Mathis (Bettye), Arletha Blackman (Donald), Martha Childress and Jeanell McRae (Larry). Preceding her in death are son Mikoyan Washington and siblings: Doris, James, Jessie Mathis and Mordine Peppers.
She leaves behind uncles, aunts, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors, all of whom she loved dearly.
