Cleveland Leon Gowdy, Jr. “Bookie” was born on November 23, 1968 in Mattie Hearsay Hospital, in Meridian, Mississippi, to Liza Mae and Cleveland Gowdy, Sr. He was educated in Kemper County, Mississippi, and graduated from East Kemper High School, in 1988.
Cleveland confessed his love and faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and joined Ebenezer Baptist Church.
He leaves to cherish his memory his mother Liza Mae Gowdy of Porterville, Mississippi. He also leaves his wife, the former Dianne Jenkins of Meridian, Mississippi. Two sons: Cledarreyell McConnell, of DeKalb, Mississippi, and Cledarrius Mc Connell of Lauderdale, Mississippi. Two sisters: Mykeshia Ivory and Pricilla Clayton of Lauderdale. Four brothers: Michael Gowdy and Robin Gowdy of Porterville, Mississippi; Fredrick Clayton and Terrance Clayton of Lauderdale, Mississippi. One granddaughter: Shalliah Naylor, of Meridian, Mississippi, and his grandmother: Mrs. Lucy Anne Gowdy of Lauderdale, Mississippi, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
Cleveland was preceded in death by his son Clayton McConnell.
