Mr. Cornelius Horner, Sr.'s Obituary
Cornelius Horner was the first child born on April 18, 1927 to the late Jack Horner and Ella Mae Hunter. His Christian journey began at Most Pure Heart of Mary in Mobile, Alabama and Saint Joseph Catholic Church of Meridian, Mississippi. Because the Lord has been so good to him, he wanted to share his blessings with others, He served in the community as a member o the Knights of Peter Claver, Arthur C. Winters Council 208 and Grand Knights. His career began with the experience and knowledge gained from working in the U.S. Navy, until an honorable discharge. He was employed at Brookley Air Force Base in Mobile, Alabama as a Civil Service Plumber. He was transferred to the Meridian Naval Air Station, where he retired in 1984. Cornelius Horner was the first African-American Plumber in Mobile, Alabama and at the Naval Air Station in Meridian.
Cornelius Horner was preceded in death by his wife, Mary G. Horner, daughter, Rosetta Horner, mother, Ella Mae Hunter, father, Jack Horner, brother, David Fountain, mother-in-law, Ernestine Washington, father-in-law, Andrew Washington, sisters-in-law, Doris Monroe and Ethel Washington.
He leaves to cherish five daughters; Jacqueline (William) Gatewood, San Francisco, CA, Yvonne (Benjamin) Knight, Mobile, Alabama, Yvette Clark, San Francisco, CA, Alexis Cole, Patricia Horner, both of Meridian, Mississippi, twelve sons; Cornelius (Brenda) Horner, Jr., Killen, Texas, Michael (Tswana) Horner, Houston, Texas, LeVert (Barbara) Horner, Vallejo, CA, Ronald Horner, Mobile, Alabama, Anthony (Teresa) Horner, Meridian, MS, Roderick (Barbara) Horner, Nashville, TN, Jonathan (Horner), Ellenwood, GA, Carey (Edith) Horner, Meridian, MS, Martin (Lisa) Horner, Union City, GA, Eric Horner, Alpharetta, GA, Andrew (Phyllis) Horner, Decatur, GA, Jeffrey (Cathy) Horner, San Antonio, Texas; very dear friend , Carlotta Bell, Meridian, MS; one brother-in-law; Vincent Washington, Mobile, Alabama, (51) grand children; great grand children; great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and loved ones too numerous to list.
