Mr. Darrell Cornelius Carter's Obituary
Darrell Cornelius Carter was born on January 17,1960 to the union of Edward and Mary Lou Carter in Shubuta, MS. As a child, he was full of life and loved excitement. Growing up in a Christian home environment, he had no choice but to get acquainted with Jesus Christ. His mother and grandmother, Rose Ann, taught her children and raised them up in the fear and admonition of the Lord. He received biblical instructions and accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior early in his youth. Darrell attended Quitman High School where he excelled in sports, especially basketball. He was a star player for many years on the team. Darrell loved his family unconditionally. It was no secret that he was a "mama's boy." He made no excuses, and shame was not in his vocabulary. He was such a proud father and had a unique love for each one of his children and grandchildren. His sisters and brothers adored him, and he held them all in high esteem. Darrell (affectionately called "Big D" by family and friends) loved life. He would light up a room with his presence and loud laughter. He was always the life of the party and family gatherings. On Tuesday, Ap,il 18, 2017, we believe that God in His infinite wisdom spoke to him and said, "Darrell, you have completed your journey in this life. You have done your best. Take My hand, and I will give you rest." In obedience to the Spirit of God, he said, "Yes Lord." We envision his hand in God's hand, and we rejoice and say, "To God be the glory for the things He has done in his life." We thank God for letting him be a part of our lives. We will miss his presence. This we can't deny, but one great morning we will meet him on high. He leaves to reflect on his legacy and memories: His mother, Mary L. Carter (Shubuta, MS); five wonderful children: Dominique Claxton, Darrell Jr., Drew, Dexter, and Drake (all of Grand Rapids, Ml); three sisters: Clara Evans (Shubuta, MS), Ava (Larry) McKenzie (Brandon, MS), and Derida McCarty (Shubuta, MS); two brothers: Joey McCarty (Sonoma, CA) and John Carter (Atlanta, GA); one special brother-in-law: Charles Calloway (Brandon, MS); four beautiful grandchildren: Zion, D'njae, Queen, and Trishja (all of Grand Rapids, MI); ten wonderful nieces and nephews: Paula, Yolanda, Shaquera, Tracy, Lakeshia, Chelsy, Kiana, Mercedez, Ny'eshia, and Ashley; six uncles, two aunts, four special close friends: Wayne Collins, Gary McGee, Jimmie Earl Gamblin, and Michael McGee; and a host of great nieces, nephews, and cousins.
