Ms. Datrice Lenice Hopson's Obituary
Datrice was born on June 28, 1955, to the union of Revarn and Dorothy Hopson, of which four children were born. Datrice was the second oldest. Her two sisters, Brenda Joyce a.k.a. BJ and Dorris Marie, and brother, Revarn Jr. were all born at General Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. The family later moved to Toledo, Ohio when Datrice was five years old. After the death of her mother, father, and only brother (agelO) were killed in a car accident, the three girl siblings, ages 13, 11, and 8 were adopted by George Pettigrew, their maternal grandfather and relocated to Mississippi so they could be kept together instead of being separated, and for that, she was eternally grateful. Datrice married Albert Evans right out of high school and to this union their son Albert was born. Unfortunately, the marriage did not last. Datrice later moved to the Los Angeles area where she met Eugene Foster. The family moved to Seattle, WA and had their son, Maurice. Datrice worked for the Port of Seattle as a Logistics Manager. She was responsible for millions of dollars of inventory. She retired from the Port of Seattle and for a short time worked for H&R block. She later moved to Toledo and became a viable member of the community. She volunteered at the Lagrange Development Center, now called One North. During her retirement, she traveled to many places, oftentimes, with her road buddy, sister BJ. In her leisure she enjoyed cooking, shopping, and playing games on her cell phone. Her family was important to her, she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She also helped raise some of them. Datrice was fiercely independent, had qualities that demonstrated strength of character and a feisty will, which she showed on the regular. She became ill near the end of her life but still was able to live life to the fullest. She fought all the way till the end. She never gave up or lost her sense of humor. Her strong faith kept her going throughout her journey. Datrice was a mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend to many. After a long period of illness, Datrice departed this life on Monday, September 20, 2021, at 2:18pm. She was surrounded by her family and friends. She is preceded in death by her father, Revarn; mother, Dorothy; brother, Revarn Jr.; sister, Dorris; and her son, Maurice Foster. She leaves to mourn, a son, Albert-Rahshahid (Lydia) Evans; nine grandchildren: Shy, Zamaya, Rajiah, Kimarah, Ra'Shyelle Datrice Ann, Camille Truth Evans, MJ, Jasmine, Anthony Foster; two great grandchildren: Azariah Thompson, Giovanni Henderson; a loving sister, BJ Hopson; a niece, Nikki (LaQuentin) Boyd; two nephews, Charles Hopson, Seattle; Shonne Hopson, Denver; Eileen (lames) Henry, Seattle; Aria Rankins, Memphis; and a host of other nieces, nephews and cousins and other relatives, too many to name. She showed them all what love is.
