Mr. Dennis Doane Larkin, Sr.'s Obituary
Reflections of His Life ...... .
TIME TO BE BORN
Dennis was born August 6, 1951 to first time and very proud parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur and Johnnie (Lee) Larkin, Sr. in Meridian, Mississippi.
A TIME TO LEARN
Dennis attended primary school at Wechsler Elementary School, completing his secondary education at T. J. Harris High School in 1969. Though he was given a choice of schools to attend, in his final year, Dennis felt compelled to stay at T. J. Harris High School and march with what would be the last graduating class from Harris before integration when Harris was merged into the Meridian Public School system serving only /0th grade students. Dennis loved the Harris High family, which included outstanding administrators such as: Dr. Walter A. Reed, Principal; Mr. C. E. Oatis, Band Director; and Mr. Floyd Hearns, Choir Director, just to mention a few.
A TIME TO CHANGE
Dennis turned to Christ at an early age, and was baptized by Rev. C.0. Inge at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. During his early years he sang in the choir and later served as a Sunday School teacher.
A TIME TO SPROUT UP
After high school, Dennis attended Meridian Junior College, and later Jackson State University, where he studied Psychology. After college, he entered the US Air Force. Stationed in Colorado Springs, he served as a Sergeant and member of the Secret Service Commission. Upon completion of active duty, he served a brief stint in the National Guard before going to work for Delco Remy-General Motors Quality Control, where he would later retire. In addition, Dennis also worked at Long Wholesale Warehouse before retiring. A TIME TO LOVE
Dennis met the love of his life at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church while they were both serving as Sunday School teachers. Dennis and Carolyn would later unite in Holy Matrimony August 7, 1982. They were blessed with two wonderful children, Keisha and Dennis, and three lovely grandchildren; Amad, Layla, and Victoria.
A TIME TO WEEP
On Thursday, March 24, 2016, Dennis left this world for his heavenly home, where he was reunited with his wife, Carolyn, and his father, Arthur Larkin, who both preceded him in death.
