Mrs. Dessie Farmer's Obituary
Dessie Ree Farmer was born May 26, 1928 to the late Reverend Johnny Walter and Louise (Moore) Sharp. She and her 7 siblings were raised and educated in the local area. Mrs. Dessie accepted Christ at an early age. She united with and was baptized at Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully until her health prevented her from doing so. She continued to worship and serve in her sickness until the morning the Lord called her home. She served her community and church in many different roles. She served in whatever capacity God called her to serve including Choir Director, Mission President, Usher's Ministry, Deaconess, Youth Director, Sunday School Teacher, and numerous other roles. She served as the Most Ancient Matron in the Heroines of Jericho and led one of the first black 4.H. Clubs in the community. Mrs. Dessie walked and lived an upright Christian life, standing boldly and proudly on the word of God. She was a graduate of Harris High school and attended two years of college. She was employed and retired from Lauderdale County Schools. Mrs. Dessie first married Urias Coleman Sr. (deceased) then, later married the late Anderson Farmer Jr. and was the mother of 13 children. She leaves to cherish her memories five sons and five daughters: Andrew Lee Sharp and Jerry Coleman of Meridian MS; Fredrick Coleman(Tracy) Las Vegas, NV; Ralph Coleman (Kathy), Orlando FL; and Reverend Gl~nn Coleman (Zena) Oklahoma City, OK; Brenda Brown(Samuel), Boyd, AL; Joyce Jenkins and Sandra Chambers of Meridian, MS; Barbara Harper (Matthew) Mt. Holly, NC and Audrey Brooks, Hattiesburg, MS; thirty-five grand-children; forty-five great grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; and a host of friends, relatives, and loved ones. Three children preceded her in death: Urias Coleman Jr., Patricia Ann Mathis and Sharon Coleman.
