Mrs. Dessie Jennings' Obituary
Sister Dessie Ree Jennings transitioned to spend eternity with our Heavenly Father on June 7, 2021 at King's Daughter Hospital in Brookhaven, Mississippi. Dessie Ree was the oldest child born to Sherrod Brookins, Sr. and Bertha Hunter Brookins. Dessie Ree was born in Savoy, MS on May 4, 1938. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, William Earl Brookins., one sister; Gertrude Brookins Williams, and two brothers; William Brookins, and Raymond Brookins. Dessie Ree received her early education at Dubose School in Savoy and spent high school years at TJ Harris High in Meridian, MS. As a child, she confessed her life to Christ and joined Poplar Springs Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Jack Graham. Further developing her personal relationship with Jesus Christ, Dessie Ree joined Word and Prayer Worship Center in the fall of 2002 under the pastoral leadership of Dr. Randolph Brown. Leaving a legacy of independence, Dessie started working at an early age and worked until her health failed In 1960 she married Alvin Jennings, Sr. they resided in Meridian, MS. Dessie Ree was employed at many different jobs throughout her life. Caring/or others, her first job was at Queen City Nursing Home. However, her professional career was established through her experience as a cook. She was employed as Cook by Torch Truck Stop, the Chicken Basket, the Waffle House, Queen City Truck Stop, Holiday Inn, Sack & Save, Pop's Diner, Rush Hospital, and in the cafeteria at Kate Griffin Jr. High School. Changing careers, she then served as caretaker for the parents of Sela Ward Whenever, Dessie Ree was not working, she could be found on the fish bank. Her love for fishing matched her will to work. She found a peace and calmness of life on the fish bank. She also found entertainment and pleasure in visiting the local Casinos during her retiring years. Desiring to have her closer to where she lived, Lisa moved Dessie Ree to Brookhaven, MS on July 29,2009. She resided at Haven Hall Healthcare Center until her death. She leaves to cherish her precious memory, one devoted daughter Lisa Dickey (I'im) Brookhaven, MS; two loving sons: Alvin Jennings Jr. (J'ammie) Houston, TX, and Billy Ray Jennings,(Katurah), Athens, GA,; 22 grand children, 33 great grandchildren; three sisters; Clarice McDade (Dewey) and Vernacile Brookins from Meridian, MS; and Carolyn Clark, Athens, GA.; three brothers Sherrod Brookins, Jr., Harold Brookins (Etta), Eugene Brookins (Aquanetta) all from Detroit, Michigan; a dear sister-in-law, Earline Clay; nieces, nephews, host of great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces, great-great nephews, cousins, friends, and church family who will miss her dearly.
