Ms. Dessie "Nette" Sykes' Obituary
Dessie Arnette Clark Sykes "Nette" was born June 27, 1956, to the late Rev. William I. Clark, Sr., and Lela Mae Lewis Clark, in Louisville, Kentucky where she spent majority of her childhood and young adult life. In 1965, she accepted Christ and was baptized at Corinthians Baptist Church. Soon after, she united in Christian Fellowship with New Bethany Baptist church where she was one of the original members. She was active in the choir, on the usher board, and assisted with teaching Sunday school to the youth congregation. She loved to sing and was one of the lead vocalist in the choir. She had a beautiful soulful soprano voice and could often be heard singing sweet melodies around the house. As a youth, Nette participated in several extracurricular activities to include the school choir and the cheerleading squad at Manly Jr High and graduated from Central High School in 1974. She had a calling to care for others and later attended Sullivan's University in Louisville, KY where she received an Associate degree with a focus in healthcare. As a medical Assistant, she took pride in her work, had a great rapport with the patients that she served, and always went above and beyond in caring for them. While living in Gulfport, MS, she attended MT Calvary Baptist Church. After moving to Hattiesburg, MS, Nette had friends from all walks of life. She always provided encouragement and tried to uplift the spirits of those around her. She loved reading and various forms of art, but her absolute passion was drawing and painting, often recreating works of art from photographs of family members, as well as scenes from nature. Nette truly loved her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She rarely ended a conversation without mentioning the love and admiration she had for them and their accomplishments. Nette was a loving and beloved mother to three children: Tanika Moore, Trielle Sykes Garcia, and Eric Sykes. She was preceded in death by her loving parents Rev, William I Clark Sr. and Lela Mae Lewis Clark; A sister; Yolanda Clark and brother; William I. Clark, Jr. A niece that she loved dearly: Kenya Hayes and great nephew Tristan Hayes. Her memories are left to be cherished by her children; Tanika Moore (Colonel Ty Moore) of Cheyenne WY, Trielle Sykes (Joe Paul Garcia) of Abiquiu, NM, Eric Sykes of Gulfport, MS. Seven grandchildren; Tiya, Ashton, Olivia, Isaiah, Carlos, Gabrielle, Chloe. Three brothers, Ricky Clark (Teresa) of Collinsville, MS; Darren Clark of Ellenwood, GA; Steven Clark (Liz) of Louisville KY. Two sisters; Yvette Hardy (Kenneth) of Collinsville, MS; Lela Clark of Atlanta, GA. One uncle James Lewis; two aunts Naomi Harris and Charlene Edwards and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
