Mrs. Dorothy Mosley Houston's Obituary
Dorothy Mosley Houston was born October 14,1945, in Marion, Mississippi. She departed this life on Thursday, January 4, 2024, at her residence. Dorothy was born to the late John Evans Mosley and Mary Ellen Mosley. She joined St. John Baptist Church in Marion, MS at a young age. She later became deaconess at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Moscow, MS. Dorothy received her education in Lauderdale County at Bailey School, Stephens School, and Middleton Attendance Center where she received her High School Diploma in 1964. Shortly after graduating, she relocated to Pittsburg, PA where she worked as a nursing Assistant at the Ear, Nose, and Throat Hospital of Pittsburg.
Dorothy relocated back to Marion, Mississippi working at various positions, to include Captain Johns Seafood and Steakhouse then to becoming one of the first employees hired at the first McDonalds to open in Meridian, MS. She later worked at Freddies Convenience Store for several years as store manager. She also worked as a sales associate at JC Penney Department Store and an Office Manager at HEBIC Insurance from which she retired.
Dorothy lived life to the fullest and brightened the day of every person she encountered with her dazzling personality, wonderful sense of humor, and that one-of-a-kind smile. She lit up every room she entered.
Dorothy had a strong love for her mother and father as well as her sisters and brothers. They all shared an unbreakable bond. Dorothy was an excellent cook. She loved listening to music (Motown), watching television (game shows, football, and soap operas, and spending time talking on the phone with her family.
Dorothy was united in Holy matrimony to Hubert L. Houston and to this union were the blessings of four children. Dorothy had unconditional love for her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; John Evans Mosley and Mary Ellen Mosley, sisters: Ida Mae Mosley and Baby Ruth Mosley, brothers: Royce Mosley, James Mosley, Jessie Mosley and Jerry Mosley.
She leaves to celebrate her new life in heaven and to cherish her loving and precious memories a loving and devoted husband Hubert L.
Houston; two sons: Craig Houston and Hubert Houston II both of Meridian, MS. Two daughters: Tonya Houston of Baton Rouge, LA and Sonja Hopkins (Cedric) of Meridian, MS. Seven grandchildren:
Rashadd Houston (Teriosha) of Meridian, MS, Alexus Smith (Cameron) of Baton Rouge, LA, Jakarius Houston of Meridian, MS, Hubert Houston III of Austin, TX, Jasmine Houston of Baton Rouge, LA, Zyria Houston of Tampa, FL, Chancler Houston of Meridian, MS four great-grandchildren: Kynedi McIntosh, Kynzli McIntosh, Karson Andrews and Cailee Smith. Three Brothers: Bobby Mosley (Cecelia) of Meridian, MS, Edward Mosley (Adrian) of Meridian, MS and Donald Mosley of Collinsville, MS. Two sisters: Mary Betts of Toomsuba, MS and Henry Ann Betts of Los Angeles, CA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who she loved dearly.
