Mrs. Dorothy LaJean Nelson Trotter's Obituary
Mrs. Dorothy LaJean Nelson Trotter, age 70 and a resident of Meridian, MS, transitioned to glory on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at her home. Dorothy was born October 20, 1947, to the late John Nelson Sr. And Ella Anderson Nelson. She received her high school diploma from Harris High School. She retired from East Mississippi State Hospital after 27 years of dedicated service. Dorothy served faithfully at St. Elizabeth United Methodist Church as President of the United Methodist Women, Lead Usher, Trustee Chair, Member of the Pastor’s Parrish Relations Committee and Communion Steward.
She was also a faithful volunteer of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) and lead the Angel Tree Ministry. She visited the sick at the nursing home, prepared “Health Kits” and provided words of love to anyone in need.
Dorothy was joined in Holy Matrimony to Johnny Trotter, Sr. in Meridian, MS on February 2, 1970. To this union was born three children, Julie Ann, Stephanie and Johnny Jr.
Dorothy’s parents, Ella Anderson Nelson and John Nelson Sr., three brothers, William Anderson Nelson, Larry Burnette Nelson and John Nelson, Jr., four sisters, Dorothy Hosley, Mattie Nelson Payton, Emma Joe Nelson Whitlock and Velma Deloris Nelson Clark, a grandson, Johnerio Javon “Mohegan” Blakney, all preceded her in death.
Dorothy leaves to cherish her memories: her husband, Johnny Trotter, Sr.; her son, Johnny “Flip” Trotter, Jr., of Meridian, MS; two loving daughters, Julie Ann Trotter (Jason McBride) of Hattiesburg, MS and Stephanie (Sean) Trotter Rushin of Chester, VA; a sister, Julia (James) Felder of Meridian, MS; seven grandchildren, Corey Hardy, Jayna Trotter, Emil Boggan, Johnny Trotter III, Eliza Rushin, Sean Rushin, Jr. and Jaydon Fox; five great grandchildren, Aiden Trotter, Kingston Trotter, Elijah Trotter, Johniah Lisaray Blakney and Darrion Boggan; a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. Her dear friends, Eula Crowell, Dorothy Burks, Dorothy Nicholson, Mary Donald, Anna Bell Jones, Judy Johns and Fred Dozier will fondly reassure the memories of their dear friend.
Dorothy was a loving mother, a devoted friend and a faithful servant of God. She was beloved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed.
