Mr. Earnest Lee Lewis' Obituary
Mr. Earnest Lee Lewis was the first offspring born to the union of Robert Lewis and Isabella Lewis on December 20, 1931 in Scooba, Mississippi. Mr. Lewis was affectionately called "Earnest Lee" by his family and friends. He accepted Christ at an early age and joined Mt. Araat Missionary Baptist Church, Scooba, MS. His parents raised him in a godly home and provided him with all the necessary tools to become a respectable young man. A native of Kemper County, Mr. Lewis attended the public schools. He attended Holly Springs Ml College in Holly Springs, MS. During his senior year in college, he was drafted in the U.S. Army Reserves and served in the Korean War. Mr. Lewis was honorably discharged and later returned home. Mr. Earnest Lee Lewis was employed by Smith Bakery Company. He was often called (Brother-In-Law) by his co-workers. Earnest was a dedicated employee. Mr. Earnest Lewis retired with 30 years of service from Smith Bakery Company. After retiring, Mr. Lewis worked as a security guard for various companies. Mr. Earnest Lee Lewis was a member of East End Lodge #476. Earnest Lee loved life. He was always jovial and had a great sense of humor. The word "stranger" was not in his vocabulary because he made everyone he encountered talk to him. He loved his family. He was committed to his family and enjoyed spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren. Earnest loved his wife Mary for 48 years. She remained the apple of his eye and the flame of love continued to burn. He enjoyed making people laugh and giving encouraging words when needed. He loved attending all of the Veterans ceremonies. He was committed to his church family as well and enjoyed singing in the Mt. Calvary Senior choir and men choir. Mr. Earnest Lee Lewis walked through the open door of eternal life on Sunday, December 28, 2014 at Rush Hospital. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Lewis and Isabella Lewis; two brothers, Robert Earl Lewis and Lonnie C. Lewis. Mr. Earnest Lee Lewis leaves to cherish his legacy: his beloved wife, Mary Jean Lewis of Meridian, MS; six children: Chris Naylor (Carol) of Meridian, MS, Winston Naylor of Miami, FL; Rev. Milton Johnson of Meridian MS, Darryl Lee Lewis of Atlanta, GA, Sonya Lewis and, Tonya Lewis of Meridian, MS. Four adopted children; Curtis Lewis, Henry Lewis, Rodrick Lewis, and Ricco Lewis. Three Sister; Callie Mae Pollock of Collinsville, MS, Ethel Jones and Martha Lou Atkinson of Detroit, Michigan; Sister-in-law Florine Lewis of Lexington, MS; and 27 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
