Mr. Eddie Michael Sr.'s Obituary
Deacon Eddie Michael, Sr. was born on August 24, 1951, in Jackson, MS, to the late Leo Michael, Sr. and Janie Barrett Michael. He was one of nine children, next to the youngest child. Deacon Michael transitioned peacefully and suddenly from this earthly life to his eternal home with The Lord on Saturday, October 4, 2025, with his wife, Liz, by his side at their residence. Deacon Michael was baptized in The Pentecostal Church of God, under the leadership of Bishop J.J. Sears in 1979; shortly after his marriage to Sister Liz
Garner Michael, he was ordained a deacon by Bishop J.J. Sears. Under Bishop Andrew Stephens’s leadership of The Pentecostal Church of God, he helped to implement Bishop’s vision of a mentoring program (Young Men on the Move, YMOM) for the young brothers. He served and attended PCG until his passing.
Deacon Eddie Michael, Sr. was united in Holy Matrimony to Sister Liz Garner, and to this union two sons, Eddie, Jr. and Alex Wesley, were born. Eddie was a graduate of Mississippi Valley State University, where he received a college scholarship to play football; he was a standout offensive lineman at MVSU and received a B.S. Degree in Physical and Health Education. In addition, he was one of the first black troopers to graduate from the Mississippi Highway Patrol Training Academy.
Eddie retired after forty years of services with the Mississippi Highway Patrol; over twenty (20) of those years were spent in a supervisory role with the MS Highway Patrol in District #6 (Interim Captain of District #6, which includes Lauderdale and eight (8) other counties), Lieutenant (executive officer), and Master Sergeant. During his time with the highway patrol, he was recognized as Trooper-of-the-Year, Outstanding DUI Enforcer, Field Training Officer, Fire Arm Instructor; he was presented with Outstanding Service Awards. He truly believed in serving the people and community.
Prior to being employed with The Mississippi Highway Patrol, he worked as a cement finisher, Ready Mix Truck Driver, and one of the head chefs at Morrison Cafeteria in Jackson. While being a patrolman, he worked a second job as dock worker for Road Way Express in Meridian and he worked as a basketball referee official.
Eddie enjoyed spending time with his family, supporting both his immediate and extended family, and he especially loved teaching and watching his children and grandchildren play sports. Also, he enjoyed fishing with his brothers-in-law, Larry Ghoston and Elder Robert Garner.
Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, Leo Michael, Sr. and Janie Barrett Michael; granddaughter, Elizabeth Michael, two brothers: Frank Michael and George Michael.
Memories of Eddie Michael, Sr. will be cherished by his wife, Liz, of forty-six years, his sons, Eddie Michael, Jr. (Nicole)of Dallas, TX and Alex Wesley (Courtney) of Turlock, CA; Grandchildren: Fayth Gabrielle Willis, Rylee Ramos, Avery Michael, Carter Michael, and Elliana Michael; two brothers Leo Michael, Jr. (Zinta) of Ocean, Springs, MS and Charles T. Michael of CA; three sisters; Adele Jones,
Betty Sims of Jackson, MS, Alberta Covington of Detroit, MI; half brothers and sisters; five brothers-in-law, and six sisters-in laws, and a host of other relatives and friends.
