Mr. Eli Smith, Jr.'s Obituary
Eli Smith, Jr. was born March 2, 1931 to the late Eli Sr. And Johnnie Smith in Clarke County, MS. Eli departed his life July 31, 2014. He was proceeded in death by his two sisters (Carrie Ruffin and Ethel Simmons); three brothers (L.D. Smith, John L. Smith and Thomas Smith); three children (Freddie Smith, Michelle Smith, and Demetria Smith).
Eli was the middle of ten children and was a graduate of Clarke County High School. After school, Eli enlisted in the United States Army where he served twenty-years with a Honorable Discharge. After his discharge, he met and married Louise “Hopson” Smith on November 4, 1960. To this union was born 10 children. He provided for his family, as he worked at Watkins Memorial Hospital as well as the Clarke County-COP. He leaves to cherish his memories with his: wife (Louise Hopson-Smith) Quitman, MS; five (5) sons: Jerome Smith, Michael Smith (Beverly), Chuckie Smith (Gracie), and Antonio Smith (Jamilah) all of Quitman, MS; Frederick Smith; Hattiesburg, MS; two (2) daughters: Yolonda Smith and Yalandia (John) Cooks, both of Quitman, MS; one (1) brother: Henry Smith; four (4) sisters: Vernell Blakney, Tommie J. Collins, Bettie J. Cameron, and Christie B. Brown; all of Quitman, MS; seventeen (17) grandchildren; two (2) great grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
