Mrs. Elizabeth Geraldine Washington's Obituary
Elizabeth “Libba” Geraldine Washington, age 90, 1004 Whittling Wood Dr., Johnson City, TN, formerly of Meridian, MS was called home by the Lord on Sunday, November 16, 2014 at Christian Care Center in Johnson City, TN. Born in Meridian, MS, she was the daughter of Velma Leigh Godette and Vern Godette. She was a member of the Sodality of the Blessed Virgin Mary. She was active in numerous church activities and helped with youth programs at the Magnolia Recreation Center. Elizabeth graduated from St. Joseph’s High School in Meridian, MS. She attended Alabama State College, but decided to pursue the role of a military wife by marrying the love of her life, Simmons H. Washington in 1943. Of this union were born two children, Sandra Joyce Coleman and Anthony Michael Washington, In later years, she and Simmons relocated to Los Angeles, CA, and upon his retirement, they returned to Meridian, MS in 1987. In addition to her parents, “Libba” was preceded in death by her husband, Simmons H. Washington and son, Anthony Michael Washington. Elizabeth celebrated 64 years of marriage to her husband, Simmons H. Washington in December 2007. Elizabeth is survived by one daughter, Sandra “Joy” (Bill) Coleman of Johnson City, TN; two grandsons, William A. (Debbie) Coleman III of Johnson City, TN and Anthony W. (Deborah) Coleman of Huntsville, AL; two great-grandsons, Dominic Michael Coleman and Jessie Antonio Coleman; one nephew, Carl McKenzie, Jr., of Chicago, IL; one niece, Michelle Battle, of West Hills, CA; several cousins and host of wonderful friends. Libba and Simmons were blessed with 64 wonderful years of marriage and are now together in Gods Heavenly Kingdom.
