Mrs. Elmerie Shanks Edwards' Obituary
Elmerie Shanks Edwards was born January 6,1955 in Clarke County to the late Billie B. Shanks & Willie Mae Spruel Shanks. Elmerie grew up in Quitman, MS. Mrs. Elmerie Shanks Edwards, was called home on April 26, 2022, at HC Watkins hospital in Quitman, MS She attended Quitman High School where she graduated with the class of 1973. As she got into her adult days, she relocated to Muskegon Mi. Where she was employed at Hackley Hospital. She later retired and relocated back to her hometown of Quitman MS. Outside of work, Elmerie loved to cook, spend time with her grandchildren, and bingo. Elmerie was a "Big Mama" to everyone including her nieces, and nephews. The one thing that was so special about Elmerie was that everyone knew she was going to "speak her truth and that's what made "Big Mama" so special. She is preceded in death by her maternal grand parents; Caroline & Mack Lanier, Paternal grandparents Joe and Maggie Shanks, her parents Billie B. Shanks and Willie Mae Spruel Shanks, her siblings, Rosie Shanks and Vera McNeal. She leaves to cherish 2 brothers, Willie (Bertha) Spurel of Muskegon Ml. and Billy J. Shanks Sr. of Quitman MS; 4 Sisters Maggie S. Green, Ora Mae Stokes, Wanda Mclendon of Quitman MS and Phillis (Don) Hayes of Grand Rapids, ML.and also one special sister Alice Clark of Longbeach, CA; 2 sons Spenarley Joseph Shanks and Billie Leon Shanks of Muskegon Ml. and a special daughter (niece) Roseola (Leodis) Minnifield of Columbia, South Carolina; 6 grand grandchildren, Diamond Kaprece Shanks Sema'Ja Shanks, Tralyn Marie Warren Shanks, Billie Leon Shanks Jr. Kaniya Latrice Grider and Bre'ale Lauryn Shanks; and a host of relatives and friends.
