Mrs. Ernestine Price Kornegay's Obituary
Ernestine Price Kornegay’s life journey began August 1, 1928 in Halifax County, North Carolina when the late Cleopatra Price and James Spencer Price gave Celestine, their first born, a sister. The family moved from North Carolina to Newport News located on the Virginia Peninsula, formed by the James River, the York River, Hampton Roads Harbor and the Chesapeake Bay. This shipping town was an idyllic place for the two Price girls. Ernestine was educated in the public schools of Newport News and attended the First Baptist Church of Newport News. After high school she attended Fisk University, Meharry Medical School of Nursing and received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Tougaloo College. She furthered her education with post graduate work at Hampton-Institute National Science Foundation and received her Master of Science degree from Virginia State College. In 1948 she was united in holy matrimony with Hobert Kornegay, Jr. of Meridian who had just received his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree (D.D.S) from Meharry Medical School, Nashville, TN. To this union five lovely children were born: Carmen Kateena, Patricia Louise, Hobert III (died in infancy), James Price, and Donna Michelle.
