Mrs. Flora Mae McCalebb's Obituary
Mrs. Flora Mae McCalebb was one of 5 children born to the union of Floyd and Inez Scott. Her sun rose on December 19, 1949. It was set on August 9, 2016.
Her early childhood was pent in Kemper, the place of her brith. The family later relocated to Meridian, MS. She was the graduate of Harris High School. On May 21, 1972, Flora Mae became the bride of Roger Lee McCalebb. This marriage was the culmination of a love which began in elementary school in Kemper County when Roger saw Flora on the merry-go-round at recess. He never forgot her. Later, they started dating and the rest is history. They celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary with the renewing of their vows. It had been truly “to death do us part” for this couple. They had been together for over 44 years. Those who know Flora Mae know she “loved her some Roger”.
Mrs. McCalebb had a wonderful work ethic. She retired from East Mississippi State Hospital after 30 years. During this time, she began hosing the “Circl of Friends” at Greater Calvary. For over 20 years, patients from EmSH enjoyed hospitality under the supervision of Flora each December. She was a super sales lady for Mary Kay Cosmetics, winning numerous awards. She will be remembered as a volunteer for over 25 years for Meals on wheels.
Flora Mae joined Greater Calvary Missionary Baptist under the pastorate of Rev. W.M. Witherspoon. In 1974, she dedicated her life to Christ under the pastorate of Rev. J.W. Perrien, Jr. She became a faithful, working member and remained so until her health failed. She obtained a diploma in Christian Education and along with her husband, attended many National Congresses and Conventions. The work she has done at church speaks for her.
She was a member of the Mission Ministry, the Young Matrons, served as Counselor for YWA, a member of the Senior and Second Choirs, member of the Nurses Guild, Pastor’s Aide Committee, served as a co-chairperson of the Bus Ministry and had a special passion for the Fellowship and Benevolence Committees. She also worked with the Baptist Laymen. Fora loved to sing. Her favorite song was “God’s Amazing Grace”. She also liked to hear “Morning Dove” and “I Won’t Complain”
