Mr. Floyd Elijah Parker's Obituary
Floyd Elijah Parker was born on October 4, 1947 to Claude Parker and Flora Brown Parker. Both preceded him in death. Floyd was a talented intellectual and precocious child who was entrusted to the care of his loving Aunt, Lettie Ann Nunn from infancy to adulthood; she also preceded him in death. He was educated in the Meridian Public School System from elementary through high school. Floyd attended J~ckson State University earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1969 and in 1980, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Mississippi State University. He joined the US Navy and was honorably discharged in 1973, and began employment with the US Postal Service shortly afterwards. While employed he achieved many milestones and accolades including becoming the first African American Postmaster in Lisman AL, and Quitman MS. He retired from the USPS after 25 plus years in 2008 and from the US military as well after 20 years to his credit. However, his love of people and his spirit for entrepreneurship motivated him to start his mobile snowball business in 1983. Operating this business allowed him to become sho he wanted to be. He was passionate about his craft and God allowed him to work at it until 7 days before his death. On Thursday, February 21, 2013, Floyd was relieved of all of life's pressures and allowed to join others who preceded him. His family members are quite numerous in size and everyone will truly miss his uniqueness. Daughter, Errin Parker Ramirez; Granddaughters, Eria Ramirez, Ambreia Parker, and Erial Tingle all of who shared a relationship with him that will never be duplicated. His sister, Florine Parker Smith ; brother, Curtis Parker; cousin, Roosevelt Mosley; aunt, Curran Johnson are among his closest relatives. However, Floyd was a people person and will be missed by everyone, related as well as non-related.
